About Kirsten.

· · ·

Kirsten West grew up on a dairy farm on the island of Fyn, Denmark, where her mother Marie kept the gardens. She learned to look closely there — at the way light moved across a bed through the day, at the difference between soil that was alive and soil that was merely dirt, at the patience a perennial asks of you before it becomes what it means to be.

She studied Botanical Illustration, Drawing, and Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, then settled on Cape Cod more than four decades ago. The gardens followed her. What began as her own roses and kitchen beds became a quiet practice — one client, then another, then a reputation built entirely by word of mouth across the Mid, Lower, and Outer Cape.

Her practice is small by design. She takes a limited number of clients each season so that every garden receives the attention it deserves — not a crew with leaf blowers, but Kirsten herself, on her knees in the bed, doing the work that cannot be rushed. Fine gardening is slow work. She would not have it any other way.
